This is my friend's son Duke. (He is also my daughter's soon to be boyfriend). My friend Cita made him this amazing sensory box using common household products and a diaper box.
Duke is now 10 months and loves to explore. Translation: go to places he isn't suppose to be. Cita decided to put a box by the hallway as a gate so that he doesn't go to his aunt's room. She had this awesome idea of using the box as a sensory station to distract Duke from going into the hallway.
She used 3 textures that she found around the house -- dishwashing sponge, alumuminum foil and rubber mat. She glue downed the items and taped it on the box. She put a frame around each item to secure it even more.
This is a really an easy DIY and its inexpensive. Sky is the limit when it comes to the materials that you could use. What I love the most about this project is that it directly addresses the need to keep Duke out of the hallway by actually distracting him! That's a very clever idea and the little guy doesn't even know because he's too busy playing with his textured boards.
Love it! How does it not slide around?
ReplyDeleteI think it's wedge between the sofa and the wall.
