Take for instance my husbands closet. His
current "system" wasn't really working anymore. Here is a picture of his closet. I would not say his closet is disorganized but some things do not belong where they should be.
Problem 1: His jeans are too heavy for the hanger.
Given: He only has a couple of pairs and once used, they find their way to the back of the bathroom door.
Solution: Fold them into a shoe hanging organizer. One pair of jeans fit nicely inside.
Problem 2: He has no space for his sweaters and the hanger is not the ideal place to put it on.
Given: He only has 2-3 sweaters.
Given: He only has 2-3 sweaters.
Solution: Roll them into a shoe organizer.
Problem 3: His books are occupying prime space.
Given: He is not using the books anymore but he's keeping them just in case he needs them.
Solution: Put up the books up high so they are out of the way but accessible when needed.
Problem 4: He needs a better shoe storage system.
Given: He has 3 pairs of shoes in a shoe storage that can accommodate 20 pairs of shoes.
Given: He has 3 pairs of shoes in a shoe storage that can accommodate 20 pairs of shoes.
Solution: Stash the shoes in a hanging shoe organizer.
Problem 5: The shelf is too high to store things that needs to be accessed a lot.
Given: The shelf is deep and can store a lot of things.
Given: The shelf is deep and can store a lot of things.
Solution: Use boxes and bins that can be brought down as needed.
By defining the problem areas of my husband's closet and taking into account his needs, I was able to come up with solutions that addresses the flaws of his current "system" rather than merely sorting and re-organizing his things every one to two weeks. A win for me.
